I have all sorts of passages marked in my copy of The Magician King, and I keep flipping back and forth to them. Grossman's characters in general (or at least the ones from Earth) are tricky, I think, since they've got this balancing act between the magical and the mundane/pop-cultural, plus the element of being -- to the last -- absurdly intelligent.
